Day The Spirits Walk

It is Halloween week. We wanted to do something a little different for Halloween. Blaze helped us make this into something special with her Hula Hoop. We wanted a limbo effect where there is neither death nor life, but a strange place in between the two. Maybe both at the same time.

There are theories that haloween started with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Where people light bonfires and wear costumes to ward of ghosts. It is marked between the time of Autumn and winter. Plenty and scarcity. At a later time a catholic pope made November 1st all saints day. So the 31st became all hallows eve or Halloween.

Instead of doing the usual witches, ghosts or other typical halloween themes we decided to do this stylistic day of the dead inspired theme. Why the Hula Hoop? Why not? We loved the energy it gave and the strange otherworldliness of it. It both belonged and didn’t. It is almost like a supernatural weapon or a shield. It moves and transforms. It is almost like something that a spirit would wield.

This was always meant to be a dance themed video clip. We originally had a professional dancer lined up for the spot, but sadly she fell ill the night before and was hospitalised. Thankfully Blaze was there to save the day and really brought her best. We still hope to work with that dancer on another future project.
